DEXTER

It occurred to me the other day that, since I've featured our cat Salem on the "About" page of my website, and have mentioned a time or two on this blog Ruth's dog Sandia (now sadly departed), I should also introduce the newest member of our family, Dexter.  He is pictured above.  Sandia was Ruth's pride and joy for  fifteen years but was a bit of a dyslexic, meaning he required a lot of TLC--and patience.  Dexter, on the other hand, is super-animated and, as you can see from his portrait, quite the happy darling.  I can't figure out his politics yet.  Salem is definitely a Republican and for some time now has been writing a screed against same-sex marriage.  Sandia, bless him, was too innocent to hold a political thought; he was probably depressed by having been named for the Sandia Mountains of New Mexico, when the word in Spanish means Watermelon.  At any rate, Dexter is hard to classify.  He's definitely a free spirit, which suggests Libertarianism; but he distributes unconditional love the way Obama wants to redistribute wealth, so it may be that he's a Democrat or perhaps a Socialist.  For sure he's too eternally happy to be a Tea Partier.  In any event, here he is, in all his winsome glory.
